Gynaegroup was founded in April 2006 by the three consultant partners, who were each appointed to Nottingham in 2002 in order to establish and consolidate sub-speciality services in gynaecology.
What is sub-specialisation?
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recognises four areas of sub-speciality practice within gynaecology; gynaecological oncology, reproductive medicine, urogynaecology and sexual and reproductive health. Clinicians practising in these areas have either undertaken recognised training, or have gained additional experience. The clinical caseload for a sub-specialist is often more complex and subsequently less common, and by concentrating these complex cases in fewer centres/specialists, clinical outcomes are hopefully improved. As well as the sub-speciality caseload, clinicians are usually involved in research, training, local and national service development.
Why was Gynaegroup formed?
Quite simply, the group was formed to bridge a gap in the private gynaecology sector. It is virtually impossible for any one individual to offer up to date, evidence-based practice in all areas of gynaecology. By combining our 3 sub-speciality practices under one umbrella, we can offer the latest, high-quality care whatever the condition.
Our aims
To provide women in the private sector with the same high quality, evidence-based practice in gynaecology which we have established within the NHS.
To provide a comprehensive gynaecological service within the group, reducing the number of inappropriate and onward referrals.
To improve the referral service to general practitioners, by offering a single point of contact for any gynaecological problem.
To offer a wider range of clinic times and locations for women who do not require sub-specialist management (general gynaecology).
To improve emergency and out of hours cover for patients by cross covering leave and sickness.
